Andrew, Mark Komp’s brother, had invited Mark and Papi to an Australian Football game on Sunday. The Western Bulldogs were playing, which is the team Mark Komp played for during 3 years in the 80s. The game took place at Telstra Dome, a huge stadium with a roof that can be automatically opened or closed depending on the weather. Unfortunately, it stayed dry during the whole game - it would have been interesting to see it move.
The Western Bulldogs have supposedly had a bit of a rough time the last few seasons but they are playing very well now! In this game against Richmond, they were behind by a lot for most of the game but managed to tie in the last second. The kids and Mami and I watched the game at home on TV and could barely stay seated, so imagine what was going on in the stadium… It goes without saying that we are now real Footy fans. Although it will still take awhile to get as fanatic as the Aussies. Their gossip magazines are filled with stories about Football players and half of the newspaper is full of Football (and that is not an exaggeration). But before you ladies now shake your heads: You should have been at my fitness center last Monday morning, which is right next to the Essendon Bombers stadium. I brought Fiona in for swimming lessons on Monday morning and when I got to the pool area, there they were! In nothing but their swimsuits, standing in knee-deep water. WOW - what a picture. The female “Ursula-Andress-gets-out-of-the-water-in-the-James-Bond-movie” sight, only that there were around 30 to 40 “Ursulas”!!! If Mark hadn’t put his veto in, there’d now be a poster of them hanging in our bedroom….

Am Sonntag waren Mark und Papi von Andrew, dem Bruder von Mark Komp, zum Football Spiel der Western Bulldogs eingeladen. Die Western Bulldogs sind das Team, bei welchem Mark Komp früher 3 Jahre professionell Australian Football gespielt hat. Es fand im Telstra Dome Stadium statt, ein riesiges Stadium, das mittels eines automatischen Schiebedaches je nach Wetter überdeckt oder geöffnet werden kann. Leider blieb das Wetter während des ganzen Spieles trocken, es wäre sicher interessant gewesen, das Dach „in action“ zu sehen.
Scheinbar hatte das Team in den vergangenen Saisons etwas Mühe, aber jetzt läuft es ihnen ausgezeichnet. Sie holten bei diesem Spiel gegen Richmond einen grossen Rückstand in letzten Sekunde auf und erreichten ein Unentschieden. Wir „andern“ verfolgten das Spiel zuhause am Fernsehen und konnten selbst da vor Spannung kaum mehr sitzen. Da könnt Ihr Euch vorstellen, was im Stadium los war. Seitdem sind auch wir eingefleischte Football Fans. Aber so fanatisch wie die Aussies sind wir wohl doch noch nicht. Die Klatschheftchen sind gefüllt mit Stories über die verschiedenen Spieler und selbst die Zeitungen sind jeweils zur Hälfte mit News über Football (und das ist keine Übertreibung) gefüllt. Aber bevor Ihr Frauen nun den Kopf schüttelt: Ihr hättet am letzten Montagmorgen im Pool meines Fitnesscenters sein sollen. Das Fitnesscenter liegt direkt neben dem Stadium der Essendon Bombers. Als ich nun am Montagmorgen das Schwimmbad betrat, um Fiona zum Schwimmen zu bringen, standen Sie alle vor mir…. nur mit Badehosen bekleidet, im halbtiefen Wasser. WOW, was für ein Bild - der weibliche „Ursula-Andress-steigt-im-James-Bond-Film-aus-dem-Wasser“ Anblick!!! Nur dass es hier 30 - 40 „Ursula’s“ waren… (Wenn Mark nicht sein Veto eingelegt hätte, würde jetzt ein Poster von denen in unserem Schlafzimmer hängen).
